The T34's are a tight, hi-energy, groove driven type of rock and roll band. They fuse classic rock, punk rock, blues, country and grunge influences into captivating songs that sound best while driving down the highway.
Their sound combines heavy rock of Black Sabbath, Queens of the Stone Age and Nirvana with singer songwriter influences of Elliot Smith, Hank Williams, Elvis Costello and John Lennon. Their music also echoes with the quirkiness of Beck and the raw power of Iggy Pop and Punk Rock. This is all combined in a Cosmic American Rock sound that makes the listener feel that its the Summertime and the widows are down going 80 mph.
People told us when we fist started playing out that that we kind of sounded like the Black Keys, for we were also a 2 Piece. We liked being a drummer and guitar player outfit, for it gives a band a lot of freedom of movement. The group evolved into a 3 piece with the addition of a bass player, as we realized that we wanted more groove and bottom to the sound. Guitarist Dan Maltby said that "We decided to become at least a 3 piece for we wanted to have solid song structure like Green Day, but yet at the same time be able to jam within that song structure and make the live shows more entertaining, like Led Zeppelin or the Doors. You could say Led Zeppelin was common ground for all 3 of us." We wanted to have the structure and punk appeal, yet also the jam and looseness of Zeppelin.
Mike the bass player, is really into the Chilli Peppers, and also is the music theory buff of the band. When in uncharted waters and away from song structure, Mike will come in and tell us that we're Ok for this or that was a Diminished 5, Minor 6'th or a Dominant 7'th. Walt the drummer, is a Rush fan and the machine, the rest of the band can depend on. "We call him the Rock of the band" says bass player Mike, "and it feels very safe that we can depend on Walt being able to catch any time change and always stop on a dime." The old saying goes that a band is only as good as its drummer, and we totally believe that. For, no matter how far we may drift off on a jam, we know Walter is there holding the fort down. Singer/songwriter Dan is into everything from the Delta Blues, classical, country, rockabilly, punk, old school Hip Hop, metal and everything in between. The guitar playing pays homage to Jimmy Page, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Hendrix and Brian Setzer.
We could go one forever with our influences, David Bowie, X, Nirvana, White Hassle, Mudhoney, the Pixies, SRV, Hendrix, Steve Miller, CCR, Black Flag, Van Halen, Guided by Voices, Fugazi, Beastie Boys, Beck, Gram Parsons, Rev. Horton Heat and of course The Stones.
Currently The T34's are playing shows in the Tri State, NYC area, but plan to hit Boston and DC this summer, and please stay tuned for further developments from this energetic 3 piece.
